Cult of pleasure and pain

Inspector Doncho, a disheveled and overworked detective, sat in his messy office, struggling with an electronic cigarette while the clock was obscured by a dead fly. His usual heavy smoking habit was now being replaced by a futile attempt at quitting. A sudden phone call jolted him out of his boredom. His colleague, Jue, sounded panicked and incoherent before the line went dead. Doncho was left bewildered and alarmed, his usual nonchalance replaced by a sense of urgency.
